Watch Out for Signs of Abuse From an Adult Day Care Center

On Behalf of | Jun 5, 2020 | Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect

You love your mom and dad, but they’re both quite old and need more monitoring than you can provide each day. One thing that has helped you a lot is to be able to drop them off at an adult day care during times when you need a break or have to work.

When you leave them in the facility’s care, you hope that the facility is going to do everything it can to protect them and make them comfortable. Unfortunately, you have reason to believe that your parents have been abused.

The last time they came home, both of them had bruises on their upper arms. Prior to that, your mother had come back with multiple scratches. If this is caregiver stress or abuse on the part of the day care, you need to make sure it stops.

You’ve taken a step in the right direction by identifying some signs of elder abuse. For instance, some signs of abuse may include:

  • Changes in behavior
  • Unexplained scratches or cuts
  • Unexplained bruising
  • Depression or anxiety
  • Falls
  • Dehydration

Of course, these aren’t the only possible signs of abuse. You should monitor your loved one carefully and speak up if you see any unusual changes. If your loved one has been neglected or abused, such as by being restricted to their room or unable to get the meals they need, then you should look into making a case. When you leave them in an adult day care’s facility, you expect them to come back unharmed and to be treated with respect. If that isn’t happening, then you need to take steps to help protect them and others in the facility.
