Has Manorcare of Florida Properly Handled the Pandemic?

On Behalf of | Mar 30, 2021 | COVID-19

If you have a family member staying in a long-term care facility or are considering this move, it is important to understand the possible risks involved. How well does this facility care for its residents? Is the facility adequately staffed by professionals? How well has the facility handled the COVID-19 pandemic?

These are the types of questions you should be asking before agreeing to a long-term stay in a facility. The handling of the pandemic is one of the most important, as it gives a clear indication of the overall level of safety and care a facility provides for its residents.

ManorCare of Florida has failed in its handling of the pandemic

One prominent long-term care provider in Florida is ManorCare. Although they have facilities throughout the state and have done great business, they have failed when it comes to protecting residents and staff from COVID-19.

According to Naples Daily News online, the East Naples ManorCare facility “experienced widespread COVID-19 infections, according to state health officials.”

Apparently, they removed almost every one of the facility’s 120 residents to a different location because 35 residents and 13 staff tested positive for the virus.

Mitigation or prevention?

Although this move to relocate people is a laudable attempt to limit the spread of a problem within the East Naples facility, a much better plan would have been to prevent the spread in the first place.

The efforts to isolate the infected and relocate the others simply indicates the ManorCare’s failure to keep its care facilities clean and safe from infection. This is a troubling sign for anyone considering a stay in any ManorCare facility.

It is an even greater concern for anyone with family staying at a ManorCare facility. If you or someone you love contracted COVID-19 while staying at ManorCare, you could have a legitimate legal claim against the facility for failing to take the necessary safety measures needed to protect residents from this deadly virus.

Relocate immediately and seek legal counsel

If you are considering staying at a ManorCare facility or sending a loved one there, you should reconsider your options. If you are currently in one of these facilities or have a family member staying there now, the best thing to do is relocate as soon as possible.

Once you are sure that you and your family are safe, you should talk with an experienced elder law attorney who can help you protect your rights and obtain compensation for COVID-related illnesses caused by the negligence of ManorCare.
