The Elderly Are at Risk When They Face Abuse of Any Kind

On Behalf of | Feb 20, 2019 | Firm News

Elderly people are often left to struggle with neglect. Sometimes, they’re aware that they are being hurt or neglected, but there’s little they can do about it. In other cases, these elderly people may be unable to remember that they’ve been hurt or that they’re victims, but they still need help.

Did you know that approximately one in 10 older adults is a victim of abuse of some kind? Abuse can range from financial abuse to physical harm coming to them. In any case, it’s unacceptable for this to happen.

All 50 states have passed laws that penalize those who hurt the elderly. However, the incidents have to be reported. That’s why the statistic that only one out of every six instances of abuse is reported is so infuriating. It means that there are many people suffering when they shouldn’t have to be.

Elderly adults who are abused or who have been abused have a 300 percent higher chance of dyingin the next three years as a result. No one wants to think that their loved ones’ lives could be cut short by something so preventable.

Whether your loved one is suffering as a result of passive abuse or aggressive physical abuse, it is your right and responsibility to put an end to their suffering. You can reach out to your attorney for assistance and make sure your loved one doesn’t have to stay in a facility where their life is put at risk. Your loved one deserves better, and you deserve to know that they’re in good hands.
