What can you do if you think a nursing home isn’t doing its job?

In a nursing home, it’s vital that people get the support they need. When staff numbers drop and there aren’t enough workers for the nursing home to operate smoothly, residents can become endangered.

When low staff levels threaten a nursing home, it’s normal for the facility to look for new workers. If there aren’t a lot of good candidates to choose from, they may opt to hire those who they otherwise would have refused. That can be a bad thing for residents.

What should you do if a worker in a nursing home is bad with your relative’s care?

The first thing you can do is make sure you’re there frequently enough to see how your loved one is being treated. If they require frequent care and you rarely see any attendants, that is a problem. Similarly, if you press a button to get help from the staff and no one comes, that’s a problem that is a valid concern.

If you witness a worker, aide or nurse being too rough or haphazard with your loved one’s care, you should speak up at the time and bring it to the attention of the nursing home’s director. The director doesn’t want to see negative reviews or problems with care in their facility.

Remember that poor care can be considered medical malpractice. Your loved one has rights, and they deserve to be treated with patience and respect no matter what. If you are considering taking legal action over the neglect or abuse of your loved one, it’s wise to seek the guidance of an experienced Florida attorney
