How Are Elders Protected in Florida?

On Behalf of | Oct 2, 2018 | Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect

It is not ever a good thing when you find out that someone you love has struggled as a result of abuse. You don’t want to know that your child, partner or parent had to suffer in any way. Unfortunately, the reality is that elders are at a high risk of abuse by others. They may not be able to speak out and being restricted in their movements also hurts their ability to fight back.

The elderly have a right to safety and security. In fact, the Florida Department of Elder Affairs is there for cases like yours. If your loved one has suffered because of medical malpractice, know that you aren’t alone. Your attorney can help you prepare a solid case against those who hurt your loved one.

What is the Aging Network?

The Florida Department of Elder Affairs passes on cases involving those 60 or older to the Aging Network, which works alongside the Department of Children and Families to provide protection to disabled and elderly persons in Florida. These organizations protect the elderly by providing protective supervision, community-based services and in-house services.

If your loved one is hurt, you can call the Florida Abuse Hotline at any time, day or night. Investigators then visit the person to determine if protective supervision or other services are necessary. If so, then they can be set up with the organization. You can also work with your attorney to hold those responsible for your loved one’s injuries accountable. You can seek compensation and other assistance moving forward, so your loved one gets the care they need.
