What Services Should Assisted-Living Facilities Offer?

On Behalf of | May 3, 2019 | Assisted Living Facility Abuse and Neglect

In an assisted-living facility, residents often don’t need as much help as those in nursing homes. That doesn’t mean that they don’t require some assistance from time to time or that the staff can slack off when caring for the elders in their facility.

In assisted-living facilities, the elderly should be provided assistance when it’s requested and needed. For example, security is often provided by these facilities, making sure that the senior residents have 24-hour support when needed and can access emergency care at any time.

Some assisted-living facilities focus on providing care for those with dementia or memory conditions. They monitor the patients but allow them to do what they can for themselves. These facilities often have monitoring systems in place to prevent wandering, which helps keep your parent or loved one on the property.

Assisted living facilities often offer laundry service and clean-up services. These are tasks that may be difficult for the elderly, especially if they struggle with balance. These services might include clean-up services 24 hours a day or changing bed linens.

Meals are also very important for those in assisted living facilities, so most facilities have a full-service restaurant, cafeteria or another dining area that will also monitor the patients’ intake, medical conditions, and dietary restrictions.

These are not all the services offered, but as you can see, many do cater to the needs of those who are aging and who need more assistance than normal. Specialist care can be provided in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, too, if a patient still has the ability to do many things on their own.
