Delayed diagnosis leaves woman facing more aggressive cancer

On Behalf of | Jan 10, 2014 | Failure To Diagnose

Miami residents who go to the doctor do so with the expectation that their doctor will discover what ails them and will treat them accordingly. In fact, a patient’s entire medical treatment depends on an accurate diagnosis. An accurate and timely diagnosis may allow a doctor to treat a condition in a way that heals it or makes it significantly better. On the other hand, when a missed diagnosis happens, the doctor places a patient in a position where extreme harm or death may unnecessarily occur.

This happened to woman who has now filed a lawsuit against her doctors. The woman claims that though she had several mammograms, medical professionals failed to spot a growing mass in her in her left breast. Though the cancer was eventually spotted, the woman claims doctors failed to timely biopsy the tumor and they failed to timely diagnose her cancer. As a result, the woman is now fighting an aggressive cancer and has suffered extensive injuries.

Several medical conditions, including cancer, can be treated more effectively if discovered early. Yet, when a doctor fails to diagnose the condition, a patient may be left with a worsened condition and/or a significantly decreased chance of recovering. In addition to lost hope and increased pain, these victims may incur massive medical bills that threaten to damage their financial well-being.

To attempt to recover damage, those who have been harmed by a misdiagnosis, a delayed diagnosis or a wrong diagnosis can choose to file a medical malpractice lawsuit. A legal advocate can assist these individuals in their search to prove negligence, which may be aided by the gathering and presentation of evidence coupled with sound legal argument. Hopefully then the victim will be able to recover the compensation needed to get the best medical care possible and reacquire his or her normal life.
