Family claims woman died as a result of hospital negligence

On Behalf of | Jan 3, 2013 | Hospital Negligence

Individuals in Miami and others elsewhere who make a trip to the emergency room feel that they have a serious condition that needs immediate attention. Doctors and other medical professionals should take each patient’s situation seriously, as if it is life threatening. Unfortunately, a hospital mistake can occur that places the patient’s life in danger. Medical malpractice in these situations can leave patients and their families physically and emotionally devastated.

A lawsuit has been recently filed in one such instance. In this case, a woman went to the emergency room when she began experiencing shortness of breath and wheezing. Two weeks after being admitted to the hospital, the woman began experiencing abdominal pain and additional shortness of breath. Doctors only prescribed her painkillers. After a few days, the woman’s abdomen became swollen and her health rapidly declined. The woman vomited and had to be resuscitated. Only then did doctors order a CT scan. But it was too late, as the woman died from what her relatives claim was a hemorrhage.

Hospital negligence in situations like this leaves victims and their families with a mountain of debt that can encumber physical and emotional recovery. Medical bills, physical therapy and funeral costs can all serve as a reminder of the wrongs victims and their families have suffered.

Legal action can help victims and their families overcome these burdens. To succeed in a medical malpractice claim, a victim need only show the doctor owed the victim a duty of care, the duty was breached and compensable injuries resulted from the breach. Likewise, as in the case above, a wrongful death claim can be brought if hospital negligence has resulted in the death of a loved one.
