Continued use of birth control pills causes post-surgery death

On Behalf of | Jul 24, 2012 | Hospital Negligence

Many times, Miami doctors tell patients to take several precautions prior to having an operation. These measures could include changing diet, abstaining from liquids and stopping medication. Since most patients do not know what steps need to be taken prior to surgery, they rely on doctors to inform them. When this information is not conveyed, serious injury or death can occur. These instances of medical malpractice are traumatizing, as is evidenced by one family’s loss of a wife and mother.

In that case, the woman went to a Florida hospital for a plastic surgery operation. Unfortunately, the woman died not long after the operation from a pulmonary embolism.

The woman’s husband is now suing two doctors for failing to tell his wife to cease taking birth control pills prior to the surgery when they knew she was taking the medication. This hospital negligence suit claims that it is well-known by medical practitioners that oral contraceptives increase the risk of fatal blood clots post-surgery. Doctors, therefore, should have advised the victim accordingly.

Hospital negligence caused by doctor mistake, inattentiveness and surgical error are a scary reality. A victim of medical malpractice can face years of mental and physical recovery. Families that lose a loved one can be irreparably harmed. Though legal action may not be able to fully repair a victim’s physical and emotional scars, it can help ease the heavy burden imposed by undeserved financial obligations.

A medical malpractice suit allows victims and their families to recover compensation to pay for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and funeral expenses. These awards allow those who are unjustly hurt to receive the treatment they need and deserve.
