Can a doctor misdiagnose sepsis?

A medical professional can misdiagnose or fail to diagnose any medical condition if he or she is not diligent. Amongst these is sepsis. This medical condition arises when your immune system reacts, overwhelmingly, to infection. Chemicals released in response to the infection can cause inflammation throughout your body, which can trigger blood clots. Blood flow can be significantly diminished, resulting in oxygen deprivation and damage to organs. This can lead to organ failure and death.

The dangers of the wrong medical treatment

Floridians who have an ailment may struggle to muster the courage to go to the doctor. Yet, when they take the bold step to get medical help, they hope to be treatable and expect to be properly diagnosed. While many patients are properly diagnosed and receive the treatment they need to remedy their condition or halt or slow its progression, others are unknowingly subjected to a missed diagnosis, a wrong diagnosis, or improper treatment. Far too often, by the time a patient realizes this, it is too late and the damage has been done.

Missed diagnosis? We can help

Our last post on the blog discussed the unfortunate reality that cancer misdiagnosis is a real problem confronting many patients throughout the country, including those here in Florida. Though people might be afraid to go to the doctor to learn of a medical condition, it can be even more terrifying to learn that a doctor missed a dangerous, sometimes fatal disease. If a medical professional's failure to diagnose cancer has struck you, then you know the results can be traumatic.

Cancer misdiagnosis could be more common than we hope

Cancer is a word that makes many Floridians shudder, and rightly so. It seems as if everyone is affected by this disease in one way or another, and it can leave families utterly devastated. The good news is that advancing technologies are increasing survival rates and life expectancy of many cancer sufferers. However, these positive changes are often dependent upon early diagnosis. A failure to diagnose cancer or a delayed cancer diagnosis, on the other hand, can drastically affect one's chances of survival.

Failure to diagnose lung cancer ranks fourth for malpractice

Florida residents know that being sick is no fun. In addition to being physically difficult, individuals can be emotionally distraught if they believe the condition is serious. For this reason, we rely on trained and experienced medical professionals to diagnose our medical conditions. Unfortunately, however, when confronted with a complex illness like lung cancer, doctors have a lot to sift through to reach a proper diagnosis. This means that any slipup or moment of inattentiveness can result in a failure to diagnose and serious consequences for the patient.

How Florida patients can protect themselves from misdiagnosis

Last week, we discussed an instance where a woman was falsely diagnosed with cancer. While misdiagnosing a healthy individual as ill can certainly be harmful, it can be even more so if a sick person is diagnosed as healthy. For example, when an individual is tested for cancer and receives a false negative, then the individual may go untreated for a significant period of time, allowing the cancer to advance. Then, once it is finally discovered, it might be too late.
