Doctors and nurses go through extensive education and training to be able to perform the jobs they do. In most instances, these years of hard work pay off for not only medical professionals, but also for patients who receive safe and effective medical care. Sometimes, however, medical professionals make mistakes, or act with blatant disregard for patient safety, and patients are left with a worsened medical condition, pain and financial losses.
According to a recent reports, more than 140 Florida women are now facing this reality after allegedly receiving botched operations form a plastic surgeon. According to lawsuits that were filed against the surgeon, breast augmentation operations went afoul, causing extensive pain and numbness. The lawsuits also allege that the botched operations resulted in the need for additional operations that were costly. In some instances, victims reported needing additional surgeries so frequently that they eventually gave up going back to the plastic surgeon.
Some indicate that the statute of limitations may have run in some of these cases, as the woman may have known or should have known that malpractice occurred well before filing suit. This is a legal issue that is often confronted in medical malpractice cases, and one that should not dissuade victims from getting more information.
Instances of medical malpractice can range in severity. However, anybody who has suffered pain and/or economic loss because of a medical professional's negligence may be able to file a successful claim. Those who believe they have been wronged by a medical professional's actions should carefully consider their legal options, especially since a successful lawsuit could bring compensation to help recoup medical expenses and lost wages.
