Anesthesia error leaves veteran in vegetative state

Floridians who need surgery may find themselves afraid of the big day. Depending on the length, complexity, and purpose of the operation, these individuals may find themselves fearing that there will be complications that leave them disfigured, with a worsened medical condition, or an outcome that no one wants to think about. Fortunately, the highly trained doctors and nurses in Florida are usually able to competently conduct their duties in a way that leaves patients better off. Other times, though, that is not the case.

Advances in diagnostic imaging may not prevent malpractice

Advances in medical technology have revolutionized the way diseases are detected and treated. This is great news for patients, as this may mean that they have a better chance of catching an illness early and it may increase their likelihood of survival. In fact, over the last several years, diagnostic imaging has advanced significantly, giving doctors and patients hope that several diseases can be caught early enough for effective treatment.

What risk factors are associated with nursing home abuse?

Nursing homes serve an important role in our society. As our loved ones age and we become unable to adequately care for them, it is wonderful to find a place where they can receive the care and attention they need and deserve. Tragically, though, as was discussed last week, far too often elderly residents are subjected to neglect. Even those who manage to escape neglect may still be subjected to nursing home abuse, which can be just as harmful, if not more so. Therefore, we all must be diligent and work to end elder abuse and neglect.

Man dies in the heat, nursing home neglect may be to blame

Summer is in full swing, and many Floridians are taking the time to enjoy the sun and the heat. Of course, the sun and the heat are almost always present in southern Florida, which is why so many elderly individuals choose to make their home here. Yet, though many of us know when our bodies have had too much sun and can readily go inside to escape the heat, those older individuals who are in the care of another may not be so fortunate. In fact, one man recently lost his life to what many are claiming is nursing home neglect.
